I didn't vote for the Conservatives, and to date, you have yet to do anything to change my view on your party.
I am angry and upset about the proposed changes of Bill 108. Does the Ontario government hate Toronto, and other large cities like Toronto? I see in the news that the mayors of Mississauga and Guelph have also spoke against Bill 108.
- By attempting to reduce development cost, it seems that Ontario government is saying high rise builders aren't responsible for improving the community it builds in - that they should only care about their profits at the end of the day. If you add 400 units that would add approximately 800 people to any corner in Toronto, you should also think about what is the added cost to local daycares, schools, hospitals, roadways, transit, and parking spots, to say the least.
- If the Ontario government truly cares about the people of Ontario who can't afford to rent or own their homes, then there should be regulation introduced about low-income individuals/families and the rental markets, such as subsidized housing. Land developers aren't charities, and they're not a government agency that should be putting people first - they are first and foremost a corporation going after their bottom line. Look at the new multi-unit developments in urban areas - how many of the units developed are being sold or rented at below market rates?
- It sounds as if OMB is returning under the guise of "LPAT". That's dishonest of you, Ontario government. I expected better than that.
and now, because the City of Toronto did a great job outlining what it is they need to see changed about Bill 108, I would like to request the following:
- Request an extension on June 1, 2019 deadline
• Request Province to issue draft regulations
• Request the Province to enshrine revenue neutrality in the legislation
• Request the Province to provide a transparent and through stakeholder
consultation process
• Direct staff to report through the 2020 budget process on any necessary
curtailment of growth-related expenditures
• Detailed recommendations on specific acts and the Growth Plan
