Studies repeatedly show that green space in urban settings is of great significance to human health and well-being. Bill 108 potentially diminishes the amount of new parkland and green spaces that will be built as intensification increases. We need to ensure that future generations are provided spaces available to continue their lives just like ours.
Growth and intensification today should be paid by development charges as we intensify. Developers will reap the profit as they build and therefore should take the financial responsibility when they build. Parks and community infrastructure should be incurred by the developer as they build complete communities, supporting quality of life and human health.
Passive home building allows for the construction of lower cost accommodation. Numerous not-for-profit developers are already using this method. Explore how developers use this option for building more affordable housing units as part of a complete community.
We leave behind a legacy for generations to come. Ensure that intensification costs incurred today are not left as a burden for future generations. Do not deny our children the same rights that we enjoy through short term vision.
