Dear Katherina Minaeva
Senior Policy Analyst
so as to provide a suitable array of regulations related to multi-use pathways. Delaying enacting such much needed modifications to the HTA legislation would go against your very own Aspirational Goal # 3 of your Ontario Cycling Policy which is to make sure "Ontario's cycling environment is safe for people of all ages". It would also leave - as it does now- the legislative "dirty work" for municipalities to effect individually at great cost, which is unacceptable when modifications to the HTA could easily be crafted for the benefit of all.
At Safer Pathways Ottawa we are convinced of your intentions in enabling the province's municipalities to achieve the hugely worthwhile vision of the Ontario Cycling Strategy. Ontario municipalities need your help in removing the HTA legislative barriers which consists of not taking into account the pathways that are being used by the millions of cyclists you have vowed to protect. We hope that this proposal has helped convince you of the urgent need to bridge this legislative gap and to finally include multi-use pathways in your HTA. We trust that you will take action on this as a matter of priority: after all, multi-use pathways have been part of the Ontario landscape for over 40 years.
Best regards,
Louise Gagnon and Gilbert Bouffard
