There is a tremendous lot to do to electrify Ontario and we will need to build renewable energy projects. We can save money by buying hydro power from Quebec and spend the savings on our own wind, solar and energy storage projects. Both wind and solar are getting cheaper and cheaper and they are the way of the future, so Ontario needs to build its skills and scale-up. It's also important to Ontario because southern Ontarians are suffering from poor air quality. I feel especially driven to write to you because I will never forget the young neighbour that I met a few years ago who told me that he had had trouble breathing the night before. He was maybe 11 years old but mature enough that he wanted to spare me the details. I believe that he was aware of how hard it was on people who cared about him to know the details of what he went through. There must be a lot of people who suffer from asthma in Southern Ontario and a lot of people whose breathing capacity in their later years will be ruined by having lived in Southern Ontario.

The insurance industry is going to be hiking rates more and more to cover the increasing costs of climate change. I understand that the American military wants the West Point Academy to soon become a leading educator on climate change. The military bases on the coast of Florida will be inundated by rising sea levels in the next two decades and since the military brass recognize that many climate deniers would be more inclined to listen to them, they have realized that they are needed to help educate Americans about the seriousness of climate change.

Recently I listened to a Canadian politician saying that Greenhouse Gas emissions targets are a national contribution to international targets. Ontario's great strength used to be its industry, please, let's lead the way into a cleaner and climate safe future for Canada.
