Of course I am in favor of…

Of course I am in favor of expanding the Greenbelt in Ontario, however this announcement feels like nothing more than a 'Greenbelt Greenwash'! By this I mean this is a clever pollical ploy to make Ontarians believe this government is committed to protecting the environment, when in fact, this announcement will do nothing to better protect the current Greenbelt. The wetlands, watersheds, natural areas and farmlands that were recommended by environmental groups get Greenbelt protection, have been ignored - and remain fair game for developers who want to build sprawl. This includes the Paris Galt Moraine, Carruthers Creek headwaters or other important lands in need of protection. And I find this announcement particularly interesting as it and comes when the province is pushing forward to destroy massive areas of the Greenbelt with new 400 series highways!

So make note - I will not be fooled by this announcement! I will be educating my friends and family about the smoke and mirrors attempt that is going on here. This so called "expansion" doesn’t help protect the Greenbelt, it doesn’t help farmers, and it doesn’t help us prepare for the climate crisis.

Ontarians deserve leaders that genuinely care about the Greenbelt and its future. It is my hope that they will elect those leads in June.
