Greenbelt lands were chosen for their environmental sensitivity. Simply swapping land for another does not fix what will be destroyed.
Here’s a thought: why not develop on the proposed replacement lands?
The main concern with development of these lands is flood mitigation: paving over vast areas will cause water to collect into streams in quantities not seen, leading to flooding downstream.
I live downstream from the proposed changes in Duffins Creek. As climate change impacts weather, and we see more extreme weather, I expect my insurance to rise as a result of this. I do NOT support the proposed changes.
At a minimum, any developer who purchased protected land, knowingly so, should have their applications summarily rejected. Buyer beware! For them to buy protected land then donate to the Conservative Party on the expectation that the rules will be changed is clear corruption.
The Ford government promised over and over that the Greenbelt would not be touched. Keep your promises!
