Because of our collective greed and stupidity, back in the early 1900s, we almost lost everything by destroying the environment. Then, brave, forward-thinking people convinced the need for Conservation Authorities - first established in 1944. These authorities helped and continued to help the public and politicians understand the need to protect our natural heritage especially in regard to sustainable land planning.
Right now you want to dismantle the CAs and destroy whatever is left of our environment and wetlands so vital to our survival (already 70% are gone) so that developers can build ‘estate’ homes. You also want to destroy our historic cultural heritage so that historic homes can be demolished to make way for ugly, cultural-numbing residences and complexes that will not stand the test of time. Not only that, now you will forbid members of the public, including indigenous peoples the right to comment on and/or appeal a residential application that will threaten their health, safety and security. And to help already bloated developers, you want to place the financial burden of development charges unto the municipalities, thus onto already overburdened taxpayers.
Bill 23 is beyond horrific on so many levels.
