I am vehemently opposed to any amendments to the Greenbelt boundaries. The Greenbelt plays a critical role in addressing climate change, stopping sprawl, protecting farmland, forests and the source of our drinking water. Proposals to "swap" land from the Greenbelt for other locations will not mitigate the damage that would be inflicted on the Greenbelt, once these green spaces are lost further fragmentation of our green spaces is created with far-reaching effects on our ecosystems. We are at a time when protection of green spaces is of the utmost importance, cutting up areas that have already been designated as permanently protected is unacceptable. As an Ontarian and citizen of this Earth, I strongly urge you to leave the Greenbelt alone, go back to the drawing board and work to find a solution that does not involve the further degradation of our protected green spaces and our environment.
