I firmly oppose any changes that reduce the protections for wetlands, surface waterways, underground waters and any other natural areas that are labelled as 'hazards' or otherwise.
These natural areas are what provide us with clean water, clean air, and efficiently absorb carbon dioxide. They are vital to our health and well-being, indeed our very survival.
What is needed is greater overall protection for natural areas of all kinds, so that the Ontario government works toward protecting 30% of natural lands by 2030. There are enough lands already designated for the housing we need, as well as opportunities for densification in urban areas already well-serviced by infrastructure.
The documents referred to below provide all the background information needed to understand the importance of natural features and 'hazard lands' to a sustainable future.
