Please consider our attached comments concerning the southern border of the Township of Essa along Highway 89 between Alliston and Cookstown. These letters were previously sent to the Township of Essa, County of Simcoe and Minister Steven Clark of Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in 2020. The situation for this area being reconsidered in the County of Simcoe Official Plan has become more pronounced over this past two years. The agriculture designation needs to be changed.

Key points: 1) The growth area designation and the development of the adjacent settlement area introduces a non-farm use;
2) The development of the adjacent settlement area has limited the predominance of and the viability of agricultural uses;
3) The settlement area infrastructure is already in place minimizing service costs;
4) To leave the agriculture zoning limits the efficient expansion of the adjacent settlement area;
5) Changing the zoning designation strengthens the compatibility of the lands to protect the transportation corridor Highway 89;
6) Coordinating the zoning with the adjacent settlement area promotes coordination between municipalities and other levels of government.
