I've been fishing the Kaministiquia River for some 40 years now. As a young man I spent many hours plying its waters for Walleye, Bass, Rainbow trout but most of my time was spent chasing the very large Chinook Salmon that spawned in the river.

As a past member of Thunder Bay Salmon Association {TBSA} I have been active with the stocking of salmon into Lake Superior. I have been on many egg collection events and volunteered at the hatchery for many years. I am also a retired person, and now spend many hours fishing on Lake Superior.

The original mandate of the Thunder Bay Salmon Association was to establish a self-sustaining population of Chinook salmon in the Kaministiqua River. This was 30 YEARS ago. In that time there has been next to no return for the time and fish invested in the stocking program. Read more

The Thunder Bay Salmon Association is pleased to finally have a formal written stocking plan with identified goals and objectives which include social and economic considerations. Annual assessment of the Kam River by the MNR is something we have asked for in the past and welcome. Read more

I fully support salmon stocking in Lake Superior. I think any damage to forage base is a result of the lake trout being restored previous levels. In my 30 years of fishing lake superior the number of salmon is small compared to lake trout. Read more
