30 years of Chinook stocking in Lake Superior, and the Kam River in particular have proved that it is ineffective, contributing only 1% of the fish caught by angling; this result is consistent every time the stock is assessed.
I've been fishing the Kaministiquia River for some 40 years now. As a young man I spent many hours plying its waters for Walleye, Bass, Rainbow trout but most of my time was spent chasing the very large Chinook Salmon that spawned in the river.
As a past member of Thunder Bay Salmon Association {TBSA} I have been active with the stocking of salmon into Lake Superior. I have been on many egg collection events and volunteered at the hatchery for many years. I am also a retired person, and now spend many hours fishing on Lake Superior.
Clearly a Class EA is required for Pacific Salmon stocking in Lake Superior. To proceed with this stocking plan is akin to the definition of stupidity “repeating the same exercise expecting different results”.
I feel that the stocking of the Kam river with salmon is not an effective tool for sustaining the population. My understanding that only about 1% of the stocked fish show up in anglers catch.
The original mandate of the Thunder Bay Salmon Association was to establish a self-sustaining

of the Kam River by the MNR is something we have asked for in the past and welcome.

I fully support salmon stocking in Lake Superior. I think any damage to forage base is a result of
the lake trout being restored previous levels. In my 30 years of fishing lake superior the number
of salmon is small compared to lake trout.
