I have been concerned with the Endangered Species Act since it's inception in that each of the members of Cossarro have their own pet animal to put on the list. Most of the time without any scientific basis.

Something needs to be done so that people who live on a developed property can build an addition or tear down the old house and build a new one. I have to wait a year and have a very expensive EIS report completed. This is absolutely ridiculous.
I disagree with the basic premises behind the consultation that the Endangered Species Act imposes restrictions that are too onerous on business. When the legislation was introduced a decade ago there had been extensive consultation to avoid such problems.

I believe the ESA should:
a. Maintain its science-based listing process and not allow possibility of minister discretion at listing. This is one of main issues of fed. Species At Risk Act (SARA)

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the ESA review discussion paper. Though I support the stated intent to provide more stringent protections for species at risk, the proposals being considered will not accomplish that goal.

To repeal any parts of the Endangered Species Act in the sole interest of expanding businesses is careless, and does not take into consideration many parts of what future generations need in order to survive. Businesses will not give us clean water. Businesses will not solve our air pollution.

As a stakeholder my main concern is the make up of members of COSSARO and their track record of adding to the SAR list based solely on their personal ideologies.

RE: Review of Ontario’s Endangered Species Act
Dear Minister Phillips,

The Endangered Species Act is an important part of Ontario's role in conserving biodiversity. I believe that the only way to have a legitimate ESA is for the process to be scientifically based. The listing should be based on science, and the habitat protection needs to be mandatory.

I believe the ESA should:
-Maintain its science-based listing process and not allow possibility of minister discretion at listing.
- Maintain mandatory habitat protection

In the past species have been added to the list based not on science but for political reasons that appeal to select groups. This is particularly evident with the designation of the "Algonquin wolf".

Do not allow minister discretion. Maintain habitat protection. Allow specific funding for protecting species. Use evidence based, scientific information that acknowledges climate change to make informed decisions to help protect our biodiversity.

Please do not change the Endangered Species Act so that it is less effective than it is now at protecting endangered species. White the Act can be time-consuming to comply with at times it is the best chance we have of changing people's behaviour so that endangered species are protected.

Environmental DNA or eDNA is a modern method for confirming the presence or absence of an aquatic or semi-aquatic species. It is based on the detection of eDNA left behind by an organsims.

Thank you for the opportunity to add our voices to the public consultation on the discussion paper as part of the review of the Endangered Species Act.

I strongly oppose any changes that would in any way weaken protections for animals or their habitats. Protection for animals and their habitats is essential and loosening restrictions is not something any government should be considering.
