Streamlined Assessments only work if there is no new ground being broken, ie- we are only updated existing infrastructure. Any new project, regardless of it's size and intent, should need a full EAA, as we are in the midst of a climate emergency and cannot afford any further ecological degradation

An automatic exemption does not sufficiently protect the rights of Indigenous peoples who are constitutionally entitled to consultation. Also, exemptions should be driven by science. There should not be discretion available to grant an exemption for political expediency. Read more

I am disappointed in this. It just seems like Ford is trying again to make it easier for industry to win over the environment. The environment is what we need to care about. We have time now to do something about it, save it before our effects become impossible to reverse. Read more

An EA should be mandatory for all new smelters especially if they are located near populated areas. All smelters release hazardous materials into the environment even with the most up-to-date technology.

Economic growth should not come at the cost of environmental protection and Indigenous rights. All mining projects and major mine-related infrastructure (e.g. smelters, tailings ponds, etc.), especially open-pit mines, should be subject to comprehensive environmental assessment. Read more

I feel that all mines, larger quarries and underground repositories for nuclear waste be subjected to full environmental assessments. Where repository of nuclear waste may be under Federal Jurisdiction, that assessment should be as thorough or exceed provincial assessment. Read more

I do not support the proposed Bill 197, especially the proposed changes to the Environmental Assessment Act. The Ford government is using the pandemic to push through these harmful changes and make it easier for mines and resource projects to go ahead without proper assessments. Read more
