Any cruelty by hunters proposed or legislated by the Ontario government is wrong. The cruelty of the human mind has no bounds and requires strict oversight to control the extent some residents of Ontario will go to obtain their enjoyment of cruelty hidden behind walls where it cannot be seen.

The use of captive animals to train hunting dogs is cruel to the extreme for the animals being hunted. I realize that in the wild these same animals would also feel fear when they are hunted as prey; but this is a normal course of events.

If you are, indeed, using wild animals as live bait to train these dogs, that is reprehensible. There are other, much more humane methods (scent training, for example) that would work effectively. Shouldn't Canada be making more of an effort to be a leader in humane animal treatment?
I have seen the aftermath of this “sport” with my own eyes. An exhausted, pathetic looking coyote sitting in the covered box of a pickup truck, days after a hunt. I believe under our laws it’s illegal to keep native wildlife in captivity.

I was happy in the 90’s when a Conservative government started the process of phasing out licences for dog trial areas in Ontario. I did not think I would have to worry about this regressive practice being allowed again.
