Proposal summary
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (NDMNRF) is proposing the creation of guidance to clarify the scalability of closure planning requirements under the Mining Act.
Why consultation isn't required
Under the Environmental Bill of Rights, this proposal does not require consultation as there are no anticipated potentially significant environmental impacts with the proposed amendment. However, given the environmental significance of the Mining Act, the ministry is voluntarily posting this notice for comment.
Proposal details
The guidance document will explain the difference between the advanced exploration and mine production phases of the mining sequence, as defined in the Mining Act. It will identify aspects of the closure planning process which are scalable and responsive to the circumstances of specific projects as they evolve.
