Following the receipt of a request from the City of Pickering, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is consulting on a proposal to amend a Minister’s Zoning Order in the City of Pickering, Region of Durham, filed as Ontario Regulation 102/72. The City of Pickering requested that the Minister consider revoking the Zoning Order.
Proposal details
Take notice that the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, under subsection 47(8) of the Planning Act, in response to a request from the City of Pickering, is consulting on a proposal to amend a Minister’s Zoning Order in the City of Pickering, Region of Durham, filed as Ontario Regulation 102/72.
Ontario Regulation 102/72 applies to the lands identified on the map attached below. The lands subject to the Zoning Order are approximately 3,563 hectares (8,804 acres) in size and are located in north-east Pickering.
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is consulting on the following approach to amend Ontario Regulation 102/72:
Amending the Order to remove a portion (approximately 1,394 hectares) of Ontario Regulation 102/72 that is identified on the map below.
This posting is being undertaken in response to a request from the City of Pickering to revoke Ontario Regulation 102/72 to remove restrictions on future urban development, on a portion of the lands subject to the zoning order. This future urban development is proposed in the Region of Durham Official Plan, which is currently before the Minister for a decision. The City’s request sought full revocation of the Zoning Order; however, the Ministry is consulting on a proposal to amend the Zoning Order to only remove a portion of the lands that are outside of the Greenbelt Plan Area, which would ensure continued application of the MZO in the Greenbelt Area.
A Zoning Order regulates the use of land and the erection, location and use of structures on the land. Ontario Regulation 102/72 provides direction on the land uses and associated development standards permitted within the lands subject to the regulation.
