I strongly believe that this bill should not be put into effect. I am against the provincial government having dominion over municipal decisions such as constructing new bike lanes if car lanes need to be reduced.

While I will agree that reducing gridlock is an admirable goal, I am remained unconvinced that the measures proposed here would be effective and that the cost, fiscally and environmentally, would be greater than its return.

Greetings,
I am writing to express my vehement opposition to Home Bill 212, the Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024. This bill, which proposes the removal of bike lanes, is an ill-conceived step backwards and counterproductive to the future of sustainable urban development in Ontario.

It is outrageous that the government feels they are above adhering to environmental protections when pollution and climate change are still serious issues that will have a deleterious effect on humanity. Does the Conservative party not care about the health and beauty of Ontario?

Less cars, more bikes. Keep the bike lanes in Toronto, and get Ford out of Toronto. The province is overreaching into municipal politics. Downtown Toronto is already congested enough with cars.

Consider removing street parking on main roads first. That would open an extra car lane for the cost of ZERO tax-payers dollars.
Spending tax-payers dollars to remove EXISTING bike lanes is a waste of hard-working tax-payers dollars.

This bill is terrible. It is blatant provincial overreach; leave municipal infrastructure to the municipalities. It will do nothing to improve traffic --- in fact, removing bicycle lanes will do quite the opposite.

Removing the bike lanes is massive overreach by the province in a municipal matter and a huge waste of taxpayer money. As a driver in Toronto I find it much easier to drive with bike lanes. They have a calming effect on the roads.

This is unacceptable. Bike lanes only serve to reduce traffic, it's a proven fact in many studies and countries. Look at Amsterdam! Biking plays a huge part in reducing traffic there. This bill is bogus and a cover for nefarious dealings with this government once again.

I support this initiative.
Bike lanes and associated lane reductions are destroying cities. The evidence used to encourage bike and lane reduction is spurious and grounded in very very weak science.
This is silly. Bike lanes are a municipal issue and the province should not be wasting their time micromanaging municipal issues.
We need better bike infrastructure and public transit to get people out of their cars instead of adding more cars.

Please keep cycling in Toronto safe and thriving - don't reduce our bike lanes. Daily commuting cyclists like me help reduce congestion in the downtown core and do our part to reduce carbon emissions for the next generation. Cycling in Toronto is dangerous enough without fewer bike lanes.

Requiring municipalities to seek approval from the provincial government about inserting bike lanes when it replaces a lane for cars is a desperate way to attempt to control the narrative in urban centres. No one understands the needs of a city like the mayor and its citizens.

This is provincial overreaching. The province should not be interfering with neighborhood-level infrastructure planning. In addition, there is evidence that bike lanes decrease congestion, so this proposal is nonsense.
I am horrified by the idea of removing bike lanes. Not only for the short-sightedness but also because we've just gone through years and years of construction on these streets. It's been brutal.
Also it's a huge waste of taxpayer money. Where's the respect for the taxpayer?

The stated, abstract objective of this Act is to reduce “gridlock,” using means which are proven to be detrimental to public health and safety, mobility and access to Ontario communities for all people, environmental protection, and will aid in worsening the ongoing climate emergency.

Madness. Don’t make me vote for the Liberal Party by going through with this nonsense.
Oh, and don't think people haven’t noticed sneaking in hwy 413 into this legislation.

This is my second comment on this Bill, the first addressed my disappointment with the addition of red tape for municipalities around bike lanes.
