Description of instrument
Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. has submitted a Mine Closure Plan Amendment for filing by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines as required under the Mining Act. This Closure Plan proposes rehabilitation measures to be implemented upon the eventual closure of Kirkland Lake Gold’s Holloway-Holt Complex. The rehabilitation work to be conducted will include but not limited to removal of site buildings and infrastructure, construction of spillways, appropriate signage, contouring of waste rock piles, revegetation and monitoring.
The following are the major components of this Closure Plan as proposed by Kirkland Lake Gold Inc.:
- expanding the underground operations at both the Holloway and Holt (Shaft #3) sites
- increase the capacity of the tailings impounds area as well as upgrades to the dams
- include the use of tailings as paste fill
- expand the existing Mattawasaga pits, within the existing footprint of the Holt site
- include the Ghost Zone access from the Holt Mine underground
- add the Tousignant Site and required support infrastructure, in the immediate vicinity of the Holt Mine (accessed through internal mine road)
