It is recommended that the municipality of the City of Kawartha Lakes and specifically the Kawartha Lakes cycling routes that were designed and are promoted by the municipality be considered as new on road routes to the provincial cycling route.

The trail networks throughout Ontario and Canada form a vital link to active transportation. They provide access to safe cycling and other activities. In Quebec they refer to them as 'linear parks'. I am a volunteer with wheelchair biking programs.

Our community greatly values all the resources that the MOT is putting into improving cycle infrastructure. Our community is putting resources into trails and river walks and we also envision more dynamic cycling opportunities via improved infrastructure.

The York Region Cycling Coalition is a significant coalition of cycling clubs with a collective membership in the thousands. The YRCC has a simple purpose of promoting safety among cyclists and motorists, and improving cycling in York Region.

Education of drivers is important for bike safety initiatives to work. For example, if Ontario passes a law increasing space to pass cyclists, there should also be an educational (advertising) campaign accompanying it, as has been done in other jurisdictions, like Arizona.

I feel the provincial plan lacks some local insight, and I wonder if considerations were made to direct cyclists to bike infrastructure networks that already exist. One of my main remarks is that Airport Parkway was selected as a cycle route in Ottawa.
