Funding should prioritize protected bike lanes and cycle tracks within cities. This is where they'll get the most use by kids and adults alike.

On behalf of City of Vaughan staff, I would like to share the following comments for consideration in the development of the Province Wide Cycling Network:

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the MTO Draft Province-wide Cycling Network which is identified as a goal of the #CycleON: Ontario’s Cycling Strategy (ERB 013-0190).

Recommendations to Ministry of Transportation regarding CycleON Strategy

The objective of the province’s plan is to identify a long-term aspirational network of cycling routes across Ontario that will:

•Promote recreational cycling and cycle tourism,

•Connect municipal cycling routes and places of interest,

It is recommended that the municipality of the City of Kawartha Lakes and specifically the Kawartha Lakes cycling routes that were designed and are promoted by the municipality be considered as new on road routes to the provincial cycling route.

This effort to make cycling safer and better connect communities with bike friendlier routes is a good start. Please make it happen. Thank you.

Good afternoon Monica Russell:

Parks Canada, Rouge National Urban Park Field Unit, has reviewed the proposed routing for Ontario’s Cycling Network as it pertains to Rouge National Urban Park.

The trail networks throughout Ontario and Canada form a vital link to active transportation. They provide access to safe cycling and other activities. In Quebec they refer to them as 'linear parks'. I am a volunteer with wheelchair biking programs.

Comments on Ontario’s Cycling Strategy:

Lots of great ideas and clearly lots of great work by devoted civil servants but here are a few concerns/ comments.

Comments on the interconnected maps / consultation strategy

Our community greatly values all the resources that the MOT is putting into improving cycle infrastructure. Our community is putting resources into trails and river walks and we also envision more dynamic cycling opportunities via improved infrastructure.

The York Region Cycling Coalition is a significant coalition of cycling clubs with a collective membership in the thousands. The YRCC has a simple purpose of promoting safety among cyclists and motorists, and improving cycling in York Region.

These comments are on behalf of the Town of Saugeen Shores, located in the County of Bruce, and part of Regional Tourism Organization 7.

In eastern Ontario, I would like to see the MTO spine route come south through Mississippi Mills rather than proceed from Arnprior directly into Ottawa.

Education of drivers is important for bike safety initiatives to work. For example, if Ontario passes a law increasing space to pass cyclists, there should also be an educational (advertising) campaign accompanying it, as has been done in other jurisdictions, like Arizona.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on Ontario’s Network of Cycling Routes. I am writing to strongly urge inclusion of the Haliburton County Rail Trail (HCRT) as a key connector link. Please consider these factors:

•HCRT inspired the Toronto to Algonquin Greenway (TAG)

After review of the Draft Province Wide Cycling Network the City of Markham provides the following comments:

I feel the provincial plan lacks some local insight, and I wonder if considerations were made to direct cyclists to bike infrastructure networks that already exist. One of my main remarks is that Airport Parkway was selected as a cycle route in Ottawa.
