It is inspiring to to see the province of Ontario moving forward with a comprehensive cycling strategy! I am an Ottawa resident who has moved from being a recreational cyclist who occasionally cycled to work to a regular bike commuter and bicycle tourist over the last five years or so.
Teaching cyclists, drivers and pedestrians the rules of the road from a young age is very important. While my community has started to put in some bike lanes they are either not used or not used properly.
I'm excited to see the Province funding active transportation infrastructure in municipalities, however I am not satisfied that all of this money has gone towards infrastructure that actually makes cycling safer.
A key opportunity regarding THE Cycling Ontario program is to work with municipalities to develop safe, convenient routes to Transit stations for cyclists from communities up to 5 km from these Transit stops.

The next couple of years is going to see some substantial cycling infrastructure being built. I would like to see the province to develop and assist in coordinating the collection of monitoring data that can be used to justify the continued expansion of the cycling network.

I believe that cycling is a life skill and everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to cycle safely.
Cycling, like swimming, is not a skill one masters in a one-hour session or a one-time event. It requires incremental learning over a period of time.
