Thank you for the opportunity to comment on #CycleON: Action Plan 2.0. As a participating stakeholder in recent consultations arranged by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, we would like to echo the comments the STR Coalition has provided to this Environmental Registry.
Overall, I am very pleased with the many initiatives the government is developing. The document is also a bit of a high level document and it is hard to find something to disagree with. I have a few small comments.
EnviroCentre is pleased to see that the Province is moving forward with progressive strategies to encourage,educate and promote cycling for people of all ages and abilities throughout the province. .
The bike paths/bike lanes need to be continuous. I travel from the East End to a downtown hospital on University Ave. everyday. There is NO continuous bike route. I white knuckle it on my ride when after I leave sherbourne or dundas or gerrard or adelaide when riding.

1) North York needs a North-South and East-West grid of protected bike lanes. Recent meetings have involved Re-Imagining Yonge Street. But a cyclist can't get to Yonge Street in a direct manner from the East or the West without meandering through side-streets or park trails.

- this could include some travel on old rail trails, but need amenities to support people on bike tours, so highways that pass through towns better. Bonus of providing income to small towns in rural areas.

Ontario has a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world on two-wheeled transportation. To get more people to choose cycling, it must be made easy for ordinary, non-athletic people of all ages and abilities to get on a bike.
