Description of Instrument
Barrick-Hemlo has submitted a Mine Closure Plan for filing by the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines as required under the Mining Act. This Closure Plan proposes rehabilitation measures to be implemented upon the eventual closure of Barrick-Hemlo’s Williams Mine.
The following are the major components of this Closure Plan as proposed by Barrick-Hemlo
Rehabilitation measures adjusted to extend the current mine life from 2021 to 2027 which includes:
- Thickened tailings deposition in the Williams Basin
- Sulfide tailings deposition with water cover in the David Bell Basin
- Installation of a desulfurization plant
- Addition of a water treatment plant in 2090 for waste rock piles and pit lake area
- Corresponding increase in financial assurance
