I do not agree with all the power given to the Minister under these changes. I do not agree that the minister should be able to require CASSARO to reconsider the classification of a species. There should be no ministers discretion anywhere in the ESA. Read more

Allowing a mechanism for developers/proponents to pay to exempt the regulation in place to protect endangered species negates the entire intent of the regulation to protect endangered species. Allowing such loopholes is foolish, short sighted, and will be exploited by developers/proponents.

I strongly oppose the changes that are being considered. They will not improve outcomes for species at risk. On the contrary, they would make it easier for industry and developers to destroy the habitats of our most vulnerable plants and animals. Read more

When the ESA was introduced it was the Gold Standard for protection, over the years it has been watered down, and these latest proposed changes would render the Act useless and push many of the species listed over the brink. Read more
