Bulletin summary

On October 30, 2020, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing filed a Minister's Zoning Order with the Registrar of Regulations as Ontario Regulation 611/20 to permit a range of residential, institutional, and commercial uses on land in the City of Cambridge. The City of Cambridge requested that the Minister consider making a Zoning Order.

Why consultation isn't required

Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights Act, 1993 does not apply to proposal to make a Minister's Zoning Order (MZO) under subsection 47(1) of the Planning Act, or to amend or revoke an MZO under subsection 47(8) of the Planning Act.

Bulletin details

A Zoning Order, made pursuant to clause 47(1)(a) of the Planning Act, regulates the use of land and the erection, location and use of any building or structure on the land. The City of Cambridge requested that the Minister consider making a Zoning Order.

Ontario Regulation 611/20 permits a range and mix of residential, institutional, and commercial uses on the lands described below. It also permits places of assembly and public storage units.

Ontario Regulation 611/20 applies to a property located south of Highway 401, east of Hespeler Road, and north of Pinebush Road. This property is described as Registrar’s Complied Plan No. 1365, designated as Parts 1-58 inclusive on Reference Plan 67R-3638 in the City of Cambridge, Regional Municipality of Waterloo. Pursuant to subsection 47(4) of the Planning Act, and except for the purposes of section 24, the Minister deemed Ontario Regulation 611/20 to be and to always have been a by-law passed by the council of the City of Cambridge.
