Decision details
The changes to the site plan for Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) licence No. 5473 were approved by the Regional Director on December 15, 2021.
Subject to additional authorization from the City of Hamilton, the approval enables Lafarge Canada Inc. to construct a tunnel under Concession 4 West Road. This tunnel would facilitate the movement of aggregate material between this site and adjacent licence No. 625711 (Dundas Quarry South Extension) while minimizing the use of public roadways.

Zero (0) comments were received in response to the Environmental Registry of Ontario notice.
Two (2) comments were received through the ARA consultation process requesting clarification of technical details of the proposal. The comments were addressed through revisions to the ARA site plans and by providing additional information.

Proposal details
Lafarge Canada Inc. has applied to amend the current site plan to access the Dundas North Quarry through a new entrance/exit which will access a tunnel proposed to be constructed under Concession 4 West Road. The purpose of this proposal is to facilitate the movement of aggregate material between the licenced site and adjacent licences. In addition to the proposed site plan amendment, the Concession 4 West Road tunnel is subject to approval from the City of Hamilton.
Other information
Lafarge Canada Inc. operates this site (Dundas North Quarry) under the authority of Licence No. 5473 under the ARA. The licensed site is 389.31 hectares in size and has no conditions regarding the amount of aggregate material that can be removed from the site annually.
Lafarge Canada Inc. also operates the adjacent sites under the authority of Licence No. 625711, as well as Licences No. 612221 and No. 5667 under the ARA. The four licensed sites are commonly known as the Dundas and Mann Quarries and are operationally linked.

The proposal request for this licence is being circulated within the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry. Additionally, notification of this application has been forwarded to the City of Hamilton and Imperial Oil, for comment.
