This notice is for informational purposes only. There is no requirement to consult on this initiative on the Environmental Registry of Ontario. Learn more about the types of notices on the registry.
Why consultation isn't required
This is a requirement of the Public Work Class EA. Specifically, the Public Work Class EA requires that the Notice of Commencement for Category C Class EAs be posted on the EBR as a supplementary method for notifying the public and stakeholders. Additional consultation activities will be undertaken to support the project as required with the Public Work Class EA. See the Notice of Commencement for more details.
Bulletin details
MHSTCI is the proponent of the Ontario Place redevelopment project. Over the next several years, Ontario Place will become a centerpiece of the province’s recreation, tourism, and culture priorities. The Government of Ontario’s vision is to integrate public investment (government-led) and private investment (tenant-led) to renew and modernize the site. For more information about the Government of Ontario’s vision and the development partners, please visit Ontario.ca/Ontario-place.
The Environmental Assessment Act (EA Act) applies to the government-led activities on-site and is being assessed under the Ministry of Infrastructure Public Work Class Environmental Assessment (PW Class EA) as a Category C undertaking. Private-sector (i.e. tenant-led) developments proposed for Ontario Place are not subject to the EA Act but would be subject to the Planning Act requirements.
The Class EA process is expected to take two-years. Opportunities for consultation will be held at key points for Indigenous communities, stakeholders and the public to provide input.
