Is there a plan to offset any carbon that had been sequestered in the soil of the thousands of acres being converted to housing?
Soil has a huge potential for carbon sequestration and we will need to offset the disturbance of all that soil for development.
I am against removal of any of the existing Greenbelt. This is a plan that goes backwards against protecting what we have and what has already been deemed as worthy of protecting. Swapping out land does not protect the delicate ecosystems within the existing protected land.

This will start a dangerous precedent and risk losing more green space during an obvious climate crisis. In addition, the land the government is adding as part of thee swap is already afforded some protection which is incredibly misleading.
I do NOT approve of the idea of opening up the green belt for more housing. Why not look into developing more northern cities that already have infrastructure?!

Building homes on the green belt is short term thinking. We need green spaces- we cannot build, from scratch, the ecological and health benefits that come with it. We can always build more homes elsewhere.
Destructing one of our nations greatest assets to create more unchecked sprawl is not the solution to a need for more housing.
Concentrate on increasing population density in the GTA. Up, not out. Sprawl does not solve the problem.

You have literally the entire province to build on. Don't build on the greenbelt or you'll regret the flood damage and economic cost that will result from building it up and losing the wetlands.
I am strongly opposed to the proposed changes to the Greenbelt outlined in ERO 019-6216. While Ontario (esp. the GTA) does need more housing, the types of developments that this proposal will facilitate are not what is needed.
