I do not agree with the proposal for consolidation of the Conservation Authorities (CA). Each CA has local knowledge and expertise in maintaining and protecting local watersheds, floodplains and ecologies within its watershed. Read more

I am writing to express my deep opposition to the Province’s proposal to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into 7 regional “mega-authorities.” This plan is fundamentally flawed, environmentally risky, and administratively counterproductive. Read more

It seems to me that we have too many conservation authorities. They have long been a drain non our tax system. Especially campgrounds. it is long overdue that customers pay the reallistic price for services. like camping. Read more

Conservation Authorities are supported by their Local Municipalities. When 36 is consolidated into 7, how will local support be maintained? Will the municipal partnership from one end of the 7 be supporting those in the opposite end when conditions and interest may vary?

The goal is to weaken conservation efforts when they are needed most. Clean water, air, soils… a healthy environment can’t be bought with dollars… that make no sense. The destruction of nature is criminal.

I have major concerns that consolidating the conservation authorities will not have the desired effect that this proposal wishes to have. It will hugely diminish local voices. One of the greatest strengths of conservation authorities is making connections with the community. Read more

In 2000, in Walkerton, 2000 people fell ill, and 7 people died from E. coli poisoning. The public inquiry investigating the tragic event recommended the introduction of the Ontario Clean Water Act to prevent another needless death in Ontario. Read more

The proposed amalgamation is unacceptable. Each local authority has the charge of biologically unique environment that is best served by individuals from the area. Attempting to dissolve local authorities for fewer, more central authorities is not the solution. Read more

i feel that this proposal is a big mistake. How can any one governing body cover so much area and still have a understanding of each existing conservation area. We have seen it so many times in the past when small areas are governed by one large organization the small ones loose out. Read more
