The government is proposing regulatory changes under the Clean Water Act, 2006, to align Ontario’s drinking water source protection framework with the new regional conservation authority structure under the Conservation Authorities Act. These changes would maintain the existing strong safeguards in place to protect sources of drinking water.
The government is committed to the successful consolidation of conservation authorities to strengthen watershed management, support economic growth, and maintain strong environmental and drinking water source protections, and is consulting on regulatory proposals to align with planned legislative changes and the regional conservation authorities.
