Land use planning is a process that determines the most appropriate use of land and water. We are working with Kashechewan First Nation to develop a community based land use plan for an area in the Far North. It will identify which lands will be dedicated to protection and which will be open for potential economic development.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit for a single residential home development that may adversely impact Dwarf Hackberry and Eastern Hog-nosed Snake, which are species at risk. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects and overall benefit actions for the species.
We finalized nine recovery strategies for species at risk in Ontario. We are starting pre-consultation on government response statements through a survey.
Recovery strategies for eight species at risk have been drafted, and we are requesting additional scientific information, including traditional ecological knowledge, to be considered in finalizing these recovery strategies.

We made changes to a regulation under the Endangered Species Act to selectively extend existing conditional exemptions to eligible activities that may impact species newly classified as threatened or endangered in 2018 and 2022.
We are proposing to expand the boundary of Bigwind Lake Provincial Park, located approximately 20 kilometres east of Bracebridge. Expanding this park would provide long-term protection and enhanced opportunities for recreational activities, such as hiking and backcountry camping.

We approved the updated Fire Management Policy for Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves. These changes will modernize and streamline fire management planning for these protected areas and enhance opportunities for the ecological benefits of fire, while continuing to protect people and property.
We are proposing to amend the Public Lands Act to reduce red-tape for clients. Changes would improve customer service and government efficiency, reduce unnecessary burdens, and provide a greater ability to make public lands available for economic development opportunities, particularly in the North.
We have approved a new Environmental Compliance Approval No. 6155-BRLUY5 to Michael Hartshorn for the establishment of stormwater management works for the proposed light industrial development, located on the north side of Industrial Drive, in Mount Forest, Ontario.
