We have updated the Director’s Technical Rules for assessing source water protection vulnerability and risk under the Clean Water Act, 2006 to ensure that the quality of Ontario’s sources of drinking water continues to be protected and that source protection efforts are supported by current science.
We are developing a forest management plan for the Red Lake Forest. The plan will ensure the sustainability of the forest resource, encourage continued biodiversity, and provide social and economic opportunities of the Crown forest.
The proposed legislative amendments are intended to streamline the planning and delivery of the Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) program. Changes would include expanding the TOC definition and removing approval when entering into transit-oriented community agreements with municipalities and building partners.
We would like to advise you that the 2020 – 2030 Forest Management Plan for the Crossroute-Sapawe Forest has been approved by the Ministry’s Regional Director and is available for inspection.

The Province of Ontario has passed Bill 60, which introduces the Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025, amending the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act. The amendments support the implementation of harmonized road standards, including for municipal road construction.
On January 25, 2023, we amended the Species at Risk in Ontario List to reflect new species at risk classifications set out in the 2021 Annual Report of the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario. This is required by the Endangered Species Act, 2007.
We, along with the Whitefeather Community Resource Management Authority and the Red Lake Local Citizens’ Advisory Committee invite you to participate in the development of the 2022 - 2032 Forest Management Plan for the Whitefeather forest.
Amendments were recently made to the Ontario Heritage Act to provide new and modified tools to improve enforcement and compliance. Once in force, new amendments will also allow for exemptions to archaeological requirements where it could potentially advance a provincial priority.

The 2021 Annual Report to the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks from the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario (COSSARO) is now available on Ontario.ca. The report includes COSSARO’s assessments and resulting classifications of species in accordance with the Endangered Species Act, 2007.
