We issued an approval to GFL Environmental Inc. to increase storage, add a solidification operation and update existing processes activities at their 96 Middleton Street, Brantford location.

Following consultations, we are releasing the Food and Organic Waste Framework to prevent and reduce food and organic waste, rescue surplus food, collect and recover food and organic waste and support beneficial end-uses. A decision has been made on the boundaries for Ontario’s new regional conservation authorities. This spring, the government intends to introduce legislative amendments to the Conservation Authorities Act (CAA) that, if passed, would consolidate Ontario’s 36 Conservation Authorities (CAs) and create nine regional CAs, targeted to occur in early 2027

To further reduce regulatory burden for the waterpower sector while maintaining environmental protection, we have removed existing Permits to Take Water for waterpower facilities. This action follows amendments to the Ontario Water Resources Act in December 2019 that removed the need for these facilities to have a Permit to Take Water.

A decision has been made not to proceed with the proposal to make a regulation for a streamlined environmental assessment process for the Ministry of Transportation’s Greater Toronto Area West Transportation Corridor project (Highway 413).

The government has proposed Planning Act and City of Toronto Act, 2006 changes to create a regulation-making authority to establish a minimum residential lot size in urban areas. The government is consulting on a proposed regulation that would set a minimum residential lot size of 175 square metres. 

We have issued a director’s order to Algoma Steel Inc. requiring them to apply for new site-specific standards for air emissions for their Sault Ste. Marie facility by March 31, 2022.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing proposed legislative amendments to the Municipal Act, 2001 to transfer jurisdiction over water and wastewater to the lower-tier municipalities in Peel Region and the introduction of a new standalone statute to authorize the establishment of water and wastewater public corporations.

An amended Environmental Compliance Approval has been issued for modifications to the existing stormwater management works serving the Waste Management of Canada Corporation Courtice Transfer and Processing Facility, located at 1 McKnight Road in Courtice, Ontario.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007, to Clubhouse Developments Inc. to allow for the construction of a residential subdivision that will adversely impact Little Brown Myotis, a species at risk bat, and its habitat. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects.

The Permit to Take Water No. 7010-DGLMYE was issued to Glencore Canada Corporation on May 13, 2025, to renew the Permit No. 0681-9MBNRV. Water will be taken from three wells for dewatering purposes at the Montcalm Mine site, located in Montcalm, Ontario.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to 2121 Cornwall Road Portfolio Inc. for parking lot expansion activities that will impact Kentucky Coffee-tree and their habitat. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects and requires monitoring and reporting.
