Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on February 10, 2023, in respect of Application 54-C-218302 for the creation of one new resource-based recreational lot on lands in Ingram unincorporated township, District of Timiskaming.

A new regulation for additional residential units came into force on September 3, 2019. The regulation is needed to facilitate how changes to the Planning Act are implemented and to remove certain zoning barriers related to creating additional residential units.

On July 3, 2018, Ontario cancelled the cap and trade program. Cycling programs funded through the cap and trade program have been cancelled.

On August 21, 2023 we issued an Environmental Compliance Approval No. 0999-C3TJP3 to H & D Properties Ltd. to process solid and liquid organic waste at a waste disposal site (processing) located at 1336 County Road 2 Rd, Augusta Township, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario.

We have made a decision to amend the Open Seasons and Hunting regulations under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997 to streamline deer season types and duration across the province.

The Minister has issued an amendment to an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) for activities which will impact Species at Risk and their habitat, and which was originally issued to Schlegel Urban Development and is now being updated to Schlegel Urban Developments Corp.

The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued an overall benefit permit to the Town of LaSalle for construction activities that may impact Eastern Foxsnake and Dense Blazing Star, two species at risk. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects, benefit the species, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.

Updates were made to the Off-Farm Anaerobic Digestion Materials Protocol under the Nutrient Management Act, 2002. These changes ensure consistent eligibility of organic waste materials from the production of ingredients used in food, animal feed, pet food, ethanol, and biodiesel production, irrespective of where the ingredients are produced. 

The Ministry of Energy has decided to move forward with the proposal. Lieutenant Governor in Council has approved the Orders in Council (OICs) and Minister’s Directive pursuant to the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998. The OICs and Directive will facilitate the timely development of three new transmission lines across northeast and eastern Ontario.

Gary Falconer Transport Limited was issued a licence to extract aggregate from a pit in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.

We are moving forward with changes to Ontario Regulation 359/09: Renewable Energy Approvals regulation to:

• Remove Renewable Energy Approval requirements for low-risk biogas projects
• Update Natural Heritage Assessment and Bird/Bat Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan requirements
• Update outdated definitions, ministry names and other references

We have considered all feedback received and are proceeding to enhance certain provisions in the Far North Act, 2010 that encourage collaboration between Ontario and First Nations on land use planning, amend or delete provisions that may hinder economic development, and retain joint land use planning with all First Nations in the Far North.

The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued an overall benefit permit to the Region of Peel for construction activities that will impact Redside Dace, which is a species at risk. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines has taken action to facilitate the upgrade of an existing electricity transmission line owned by Hydro One, to enhance the electricity system’s North-South transfer capacity to serve economic growth and electrification initiatives in northern Ontario while meeting increased electricity demand south of Barrie. 

The minister has issued an overall benefit permit to HAW Limited to adversely impact 56 Category 2 Butternut trees, which are species at risk, so they can construct a residential subdivision. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.
