We have amended four producer responsibility regulations made under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016. These changes increase flexibility, reduce burden and simplify requirements for producers.

In response to the feedback received, a decision was made not to proceed with the regulation proposal at this time.

We decided to repeal sections of the Electricity Act, 1998 (EA) and the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 (OEBA) that were introduced under the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 to promote and prioritize the development of renewable energy.

We have approved the three regulated manuals under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA). The revisions align with the Sustainable Growth: Ontario’s Forest Sector Strategy and modernize the forest management planning and wood measurement processes while continuing to provide for the sustainability of Ontario’s forests.

Changes have been made to Ontario Regulation 299/19: Additional Residential Units to facilitate the creation of additional residential units by removing barriers that would reduce or eliminate the need for rezoning or minor variances in certain cases. The amended regulation can be accessed here:

We have decided to proceed with the proposal as described, which will improve transparency, reduce burdens for industry and ensure our crown forests continue to be sustainably managed.

The Minister has issued a permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to Block 11 Properties Inc. for stormwater management outlet improvement works that may adversely impact Redside Dace. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects, actions to benefit the species, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

A decision was made to renew Permit to Take Water No. 5445-ATMM95. Permit to Take Water No.1488-BNNQNG was issued to Westbury International (1991) Corporation on May 14, 2020 for golf course irrigation purposes. Water will be taken from one lake and one pond. The permit expires on December 31, 2022.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to the Governing Council of the University of Toronto for development of a single building which will impact Eastern Flowering Dogwood. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects and benefit the species, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

The minister has issued an overall benefit permit to the Regional Municipality of Halton to carry out improvements to Dundas Street West, which will impact Redside Dace, a species at risk fish. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

We are moving forward with regulatory changes to allow the ministry and drinking water systems to act quickly to help ensure that drinking water in Ontario is protected during an emergency, including by providing systems with temporary staffing options, and operators with temporary relief from training and certification requirements.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit to the Ministry of Transportation concerning Little Brown Myotis, Northern Myotis and Tri-colored Bat and their habitats in order to accommodate the widening of Highway 400 between Kind Road and Lloydtown-Aurora Road. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects.
