The just-released IPCC report reinforces the urgent need for climate action. While cap and trade systems, and carbon pricing in general, might not be the best solution, they are at least steps in the right direction. I urge you to reconsider cancelling Ontario's commitments to cap and trade; please do not pass Bill 4. We need all the tools available to begin to take action on emissions reductions. Further, a shift to a low-carbon economy has many potential benefits for Ontarians beyond climate change -- energy efficiency support measures, better infrastructure for public transit across the province, more attention to land use planning and zoning, and more all can have positive impacts on the economy and on justice. More equitable development, planning, and energy use will help all Ontarians prosper, and will enable our future kids and grandkids to enjoy the Ontario we all care about. Please take action on climate change by maintaining a cap and trade system, and using that as a launching point for more ambitious climate action.
