The Environmental Assessment…

The Environmental Assessment Act is/was meant to hold all Provincial, municipal and private enterprises responsible for considering and protecting the environment and public health when building projects. Choosing to exempt yourself from the EA requirements show a lack of understanding of the intent of the Act and sends a clear message that this government does not value the Act nor the environment and public health. The EA exists to encourage safe and environmentally sound development within the province and while it does slow development it makes it more considered and ultimately benefits Ontarians. Surely if the government of Ontario really believes in the merits of the 413 proposal they shouldn't be worried about publicly showing the value and environmental and public health merits of the project - in a public way under the EA.
Ignoring the EA sets a dangerous precedent for future projects, for private enterprises and for the public. Show that you value the health of Ontarians and that the 413 has merit by going through the proper EA process.
