As an Ontario citizen, I am much more concerned with the arrogance that comes with ignoring the Environmental Assessment Act than the highway gridlocks. You are willing to overlook an act put in place for very important reasons. It protects our environment on a legal level, which continues to be disregarded when those who stand to benefit are making decisions. If we are willing to push aside the law for a 52 kilometer highway that may or may not help traffic congestion. What comes next? At what point is it important enough to take it seriously? This sets a precedent that the government is able to overrule Acts when they so choose. I am worried that my government will continue to make decisions that contribute to the climate crisis and that the public is not being given a fair chance to be heard.
