Algoma Steel is taking an extraordinary step in reducing emissions with the transition to Electric Arc Furnaces. In North America we need to produce our own steel. Do you want to be in a Military Conflict with Russia and have to depend on China for your steel ? Environmental policy has to be implemented on a global scale whereby the democracies and autocrat countries are all on the same page on the greening of the planet. There has to be a long term vision and commitment by democracies who change political stripes every four years. Environmental policy in Canada cannot result in the shifting of jobs to less environmentally responsible regimes. Algoma Steel is doing their part moving to the EAF process. To see environmental pundits still kicking them during this process is a bigger problem than any ultimate solution.
