It makes no sense to repeal cap and trade. Budgeting 35 million dollars to fight the federal government from imposing a carbon tax is the worst kind of government waste, since it is unlikely to win. When there are so many programs that could use that money, for example the basic income pilot, which you pledged to continue during the election.
Cancelling cap and trade eliminates 1.9 billion annually, to be used to fund greenhouse gas reductions, including a budget of 100 million for school repair bills, which are sorely needed.
Corporations that will sue Ontario for cancelling contracts, as has already been done with Tesla and the lawyers whose pockets will be lined with our tax dollars is wrong. Smells like gravy.
This government says it will prepare climate change plans later. “When pollution is free, we can expect to have more of it.” The global warming problem is urgent and our health and the lives of future generations is at risk.
Like throwing the baby out with the dishwater, planning on getting the baby back later will have an impact on the baby.
