As a citizen of Ontario, I am strongly opposed to Bill 4 on the grounds that it endangers the land and resources of our entire province and the lives of every current and future citizen.
Climate change is an urgent, life-threatening problem that is already contributing to natural disasters, loss of life, and increased recovery/relief costs in Ontario and around the world. Scientific predictions show that this will only get worse - astronomically so if we fail to act. The resources upon which our province depends are threatened by drought, flooding, and wildfire, and our entire environment, economy, and society is poised to be thrown into shock by the disasters and disruptions to come.
Ontario needs policies NOW to reduce carbon emissions and begin the transition to a clean and sustainable economy if we are to remain a healthy and welcoming place to live and work. We do not have time to waste, and we cannot afford to scrap the current policy and replace it with vague promises that something might be done in the future. The government needs to take this threat seriously, and take real action to protect our citizens and environment, rather than enabling outdated, polluting business practices that have no place in the modern world.
Dismantling climate legislation is a betrayal of the people of Ontario, whose safety and security the government is supposed to protect. By enacting Bill 4 the government would be abandoning its responsibility to the people of Ontario, and committing to a catastrophic future for us all. This is a shameful abuse of power and one that should not be allowed to move ahead.
