Regarding the interim combined sewer to support development at Ontario Place (955 Lakeshore Blvd), I am strongly opposed to the proposal. This is a blatant disregard of the Environmental Protection Act, R.S.O. which agreed to protect the water quality in the Great Lakes. It would undo decades of effort by the City of Toronto to replace combined sewers and to reduce the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario.
As a Toronto resident, I depend on the water to be clean and safe, not only for human beings but for the local wildlife that we are also responsible for. What effect would this effluent have on the local bird and fish species, whose habitats are already being disrupted as a result of this work?
This proposal exclusively benefits the stakeholders in this spa and the politicians who are in their pockets, but is NOT in the public interest, and threatens an already fragile ecosystem, ignores the needs and demands of the local community, and needlessly endangers the health and well being of Toronto/Ontario citizens. I plead with you to reject this permit application.
