We are against proposal to change Endangered Species Act , R.S.O. 2007.

This proposal summarizes plans to eliminate habitat protections for endangered and threatened species to build houses, development, mining and transit etc. What about their homes which we already destroying. Animals are unable to defend from mankind and its growth for destruction. Everyday we hear news about climate change which is mostly caused by humans. We feel such proposed changes will lead to the extinction of critically endangered species because of logging, mining, development and other activities. At issue is a long-standing definition of “harm” in the Endangered Species Act, which has included altering or destroying the places those species live. Habitat destruction is the biggest cause of extinction.

Why do we need COSSARO committee and its science-based assessments?

This proposal to change in roles of COSSARO as they are independent while this change can have government body who do not have scientific knowledge or study can remove protected species from the list. Any government can override COSSARO without through understanding of species and its habitats. We absolutely do not agree with this proposed change.

We believe each and every Species are the fundamental components of biodiversity and we rely on their survival for our own existence. However, our current biodiversity crisis is so severe that conservation activities are essential for the survival of many different species. It is absolutely essential we conserve biodiversity.

Endangered Species Act is aimed at protecting threatened spices and their habitats.
It requires federal/provincial agencies to ensure that their actions do not jeopardize the existence of listed species and promotes recovery efforts for these species.

Why are species important?

The millions of species that inhabit our lands, freshwater ecosystems, and ocean have evolved over millennia, creating the web of life that sustains our planet. They provide essential resources such as food, medicine, and raw materials. They also drive vital processes like soil formation, decomposition, water filtration, pollination, pest control, and climate regulation. Additionally, they are a primary source of income and resources for hundreds of millions of people worldwide, supporting livelihoods and global well-being.

Species also hold historical, cultural and traditional significance for almost every culture on Earth, providing spiritual guidance and comfort to many different societies.

We have included several links with references, articles, research papers that proposal/government must read before continuing. We know the intent behind is to build/develop buildings by destroying nature. We will be filing group lawsuit if this proposed changes do get implemented as these change will fail to protect endangered species.
