I strongly oppose any weakening of the Endangered Species Act or the creation of legislation that speeds up development at the cost of wildlife and ecosystems. Delays and costs are not a justification for sacrificing Ontario’s rich biodiversity. Extinction is permanent—unlike construction timelines. Conservation must be guided by science, not industry. Ontario must lead by strengthening these protections, not dismantling them for profit.

If passed, Bill 5 would repeal Ontario’s Endangered Species Act and replace it with a weakened law that:
🚫 Strips away science-based decision-making
🚫 Weakens protections for critical habitats
🚫 Gives the government broad discretion to ignore the needs of at-risk species
🚫 Removes provincial protections for migratory birds and aquatic species — many of which aren’t adequately protected under federal law.
These repeals and weakened laws will be death sentence for not only species at risk but all wildlife as it destroys the order of nature.

Ontario’s natural heritage, biodiversity, and environmental integrity are not obstacles to growth—they are foundations of a healthy, sustainable future. I urge the government to reject all proposals that weaken environmental protection, and instead strengthen our commitment to ecological stewardship, transparency, and public engagement.
