this is one of those proposals that I know, should it be approved, will go down in history.
and not for "boosting our economy", not for solving the housing crisis or doing any genuine good for the average ontario citizen at all.
this will be remembered, years from now, for causing an abrupt loss in our already declining biodiversity. it will be the obvious perpetrator for the mass flooding that will follow. natural disasters are not cheap. the ecosystem has a way of taking care of itself. if we tear parts of it down the way ford wants, we will be facing millions of dollars in structural damage.
all of the species that we are going to lose, should this proposal pass, will be gone forever. many of them will not even be documented. but the ones that are, children will learn about. they will learn about ford choking the life out of ontario, of all the fish and birds and foxes they will never get to see. they will know, because it will be recorded, that it was entirely preventable.
and when those children come calling, I hope you have some very good answers for why you did not.
