Changing provincial measures of the ESA, 2007 to SCA, 2025 will be beyond detrimental for endangered species as it does not included areas and space that are necessary for their life. It only includes a place of dwelling or rest, not where to find food, migratory area between winter and summer places to reside as weather and predator/food sources activity and occurrence change. It is not inclusive of their life and other space that is required to live and thus thrive.
Imagine if you could only stay in your home, that's not a life. You're cutting out community space, places for physical activity, travel, enjoying nature, places to forage or buy food, like covid times unfathomable to thrive in those conditions.
This also only includes direct relation to a individual. Not a population of endangered species, not geographically different and diverse populations necessary for genetic diversity. Also does not include migratory birds or water species at all. Disgusting and unimaginable. You're telling me Ontario that had the touted (and still not amazing) provincial species at risk protections have fallen to this measly unsupported blather of words? Can't even protect their great lakes native species? Despicable.
All for the sake of a new highway we can't afford? Mining developments that don't have the energy or grid capacity to keep up with. People cannot afford these new homes or places of residence. Increase public transit measures, train lines, flood mitigation because building new homes there will not last long, they will soon be flooded. Water will run and return where it once was.
