THE ORDER OF EVENTS IS BACKWARDS
this legislation amounts to a gutting of environmental protection for endangered species and their habitats and cannot proceed. It allows developers to start projects and destroy habitat before the consequences of that project for endangered species are established.
Yes we need to move swiftly to bolster our economy and build houses. But we need to build smarter not only faster. The Greenbelt scandal already proved that Ontarions don't want to sacrifice farmland, wetlands and important wildlife habitat, because they understand the value of these things.
Moving to a system where a developer can "register " and immediately put shovels in the ground is a death sentence for endangered animals and their habitat. You can't get that habitat back whatever slap on the wrist or fine the government hands out.
