I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to any effort to repeal or weaken Ontario’s Endangered Species Act (ESA). This legislation is not just a bureaucratic formality—it is a lifeline for species at risk in our province and a reflection of our collective responsibility to protect the rich biodiversity that sustains us all.
The ESA is one of the few remaining tools we have to ensure that future generations inherit a world where threatened wildlife and natural habitats still exist. Repealing it sends a dangerous message that short-term economic interests outweigh the long-term health of our ecosystems.
Healthy ecosystems provide essential services: clean air and water, climate regulation, pollination, and soil health. These services depend on biodiversity. When we allow endangered species to disappear, we unravel the fabric of our environment—and once gone, these species are gone forever.
Ontarians value our natural heritage. The ESA represents a promise to protect it. Weakening or repealing it is not only shortsighted—it is irresponsible and irreversible. I urge you to uphold the Endangered Species Act and strengthen its enforcement, not dismantle it.
Please choose a future where people and nature can thrive together.
