We strongly disagree with the major changes that the Ontario government is proposing to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the introduction of a new Species Conservation Act, 2025. The consequences of these proposals would:
• Undermine science-based decision-making
• Narrow the definition of critical habitat, leaving ecosystems unprotected
• Fast-track development in Ontario at the expense of biodiversity
• Weaken recovery and stewardship efforts
• Disregard Indigenous rights and the importance of meaningful consultation
This isn’t just policy change — it’s a step backwards for environmental protection, reconciliation, and our shared responsibility to future generations.
