I do not think that this act should be passed. I do not think that the government should have the ability to add or remove protected species at its discretion because, as the Ford government has demonstrated with its previous plan to build housing over Ontario wetlands, the government may prioritize developer and corporate interests over necessary environmental protects that help protect Ontarians and its ecosystem despite backlash. As extreme weather events increase due to climate change—entire streets in Mississauga flooded after heavy rain last year and forest fires in the province have increased—we need these protections more than ever. Some times protections and consultations are necessary in order to prevent hasty decisions that prioritize short term gains over long term benefits.
