Placing the care of species behind the building of highways is the quickest way to cause extinction. These laws are in place because humans are simply terrible at holding two things at the same time; progress and preservation. Amending this bill maybe required, but allowing building to start without proper assessment allows developers to take the “apologize after” approach. They are basically given permission to kill species. There will be a fallout to other animals and vegetation when this happens. This amendment reveals the unfortunate truths about the Ford’s government unlawful connections to powerful Ontario developers. It also shows a clear lack of wisdom. This provincial government cannot be trusted to protect endangered species over private corporate profits, and recent changes in Ontario laws (done quietly and swiftly) show a clear intention to bulldoze any legal challenges.
